Tutorial Redesign
My first major task at Grease Monkey Games was to redesign the First-Time User Experience (FTUE) for Torque Drift. Based on player feedback and in-game analytics, it was clear that players were struggling with understanding the core mechanics, leading to frustration and low retention even after the tutorial was re done… Twice.
To address this, I decided to break down the core gameplay mechanics within the game and teach each skill one by one allowing players to practice at their own pace before advancing to the next. This structure became the foundation for the new tutorial.
Yes this is very basic approach, however the game is very niche. Even though there were players who knew everything about drifting and had played similar games. there were also players who knew absolutely nothing. So this as most tutorials do, catered to the absolute newbies. However I wanted to also design it in a way that also allowed a seasoned professional brush up on the fundamentals at any point.
We also created tutorials for the Paint Shop and Tuning, as these are key components of the game. However, due to budget and time limitations, only the fundamental tutorial was implemented, though the others were fully designed and nearly made it in.

Script Writing Contributions for Torque Drift
Original
New
For Torque Drift, I was tasked with re-designing the tutorial. Our team consisted of 4 people
1 Environment Artist
1 Unity Engineer
1 QA/Producer
1 Designer (Me)
The primary focus of the FTUE redesign for Torque Drift was to effectively teach players how to drift, as data revealed this was a significant challenge and a key factor behind low player retention rates. Additionally, we aimed to keep each tutorial segment concise while ensuring the content remained engaging. This was achieved through crafting interesting dialogue, as seen in the scripts provided.
We also wrote scripts for a Paint shop, Tuning & Shop menu Tutorial, these were cut ultimately due to time restraints and lack of resources dedicated to recreating the tutorial, as we were in the midst of development on the sequel Torque Drift 2
